EDSMT — Surface Mining Survey
Automated surface mining telemetry and mapping for the Rhino SRV.
It monitors your journal live — you never have to type a coordinate, a system name, or a distance.
Original work • Standalone • Not affiliated with Frontier Developments • Built for Elite Dangerous 4.4.1.1 • GPL-3.0
▶ Get It
- Download Link: radioraxxla.com/EDSMT
- Installer (EDSMT-Setup.exe): Standard wizard, Start menu entry, desktop shortcut, Add/Remove Programs support. Installs per-user (no admin prompt required).
- Portable (EDSMT.exe): Single standalone executable — run from any folder or USB stick.
- Auto-Updates: Downloads verified checksum releases in the background. Prompts with INSTALL UPDATE only when you are ready so it never interrupts a run.
- SmartScreen Note: Free community tool, not commercially code-signed. Click More info → Run anyway.
▶ Key Features
- Live SRV HUD Overlay: 6 independent, draggable modules (Compass tape, Patch Scope, Nearest Targets, Telemetry/Status, Mineral Deposit card, and Step Guide).
- No Coordinate Entry: Reads coordinates, headings, and signals directly from journal telemetry. Live distance & bearings update as you drive.
- Full Survey Area Mapping: Set the centre and border to map 2 km scanner sweeps; tracks your percentage coverage to ensure zero missed gaps.
- Rig Proximity Radar & Warnings: Tracks deployed rigs 1–6 with color-coded markers. Sounds progressive warnings at 3.5 km and 4.8 km to prevent rig destruction at 5 km.
- Smart Patch Valuation: Calculates estimated credit yields per patch using live community market pricing.
- Rhino Session Earnings: Clean log of refined tonnes, transfers, sell prices, and net credits/hour strictly for Rhino surface operations.
- Crowdsourced Mapping: Optional one-click community data sync and Discord string exports.
▶ Quickstart Workflow
Control the entire workflow using Left Alt + the number row (Alt+1 through Alt+6):
- Honk & Check Bodies: Hit Where to land to see ranked landable bodies by estimated value and locations.
- DSS Map the Planet: Reveals numbered Planetary Mining Locations across the surface.
- Touchdown & Deploy: Land near your target signal and deploy the Rhino SRV.
- Alt+1 (Center): Drive to the center of the patch to log the signal and establish origin.
- Alt+2 (Border): Drive to the outer perimeter with the mineral scanner active to fix the sweep radius.
- Alt+3 (Mark Deposit): Target a deposit, select/type commodity and density, and mark.
- Alt+4 (Rig Down): Drops a numbered rig marker (1–6) tracked on your scope and compass.
- Alt+5 (Rigs Up): Clears rig markers when packing up.
- Alt+6 (Update Deposit): Updates tonnes/depletion state of the deposit you are currently parked on.
▶ Default Hotkeys
Key Action Alt+1 Log signal & lock survey centre Alt+2 Set survey border radius Alt+3 Mark mineral deposit Alt+4 Mark rig deployed (tracks up to 6) Alt+5 Clear / recall all rigs Alt+6 Update current deposit dataAll binds are fully remappable in Settings → Hotkeys.
▶ Data & Storage
Your data belongs to you. Stored as raw human-readable CSV/JSON files in:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RadioRaxxla\EDSMT
- deposits.csv — Marked finds, yields, and densities
- locations.csv — Logged planetary signals
- sessions.csv — Rhino operational earnings & telemetry
- coverage\ — Survey sweep maps per body
Portable mode: place an empty portable.txt file next to EDSMT.exe to save everything to a local data\ folder instead.
▶ Common Troubleshooting
- Overlay not visible over the game? Elite Dangerous must be set to Borderless or Windowed mode (DirectX limitation in exclusive fullscreen).
- Box lost off-screen? Go to Settings → Reset box positions.
- System/Body not detecting? Confirm your Elite journal path under Settings → Journal folder.
- SmartScreen Warning? Click More Info → Run anyway.
