Companion tool for Elite Dangerous surface exploration and SRV mining. Map explored areas and deposits, navigate back to points of interest, manage your map library, and research Surface Mining markets and commodities.
Rhino Surface Mapper is an independent companion tool for Elite Dangerous Commanders, designed for surface exploration and SRV mining.
It follows your SRV position and heading in real time and builds a persistent surface map as you drive, helping you see which areas have already been explored, record deposits and other points of interest, plan search routes, and navigate back to previously recorded locations.
Main features include:
• Live SRV position, heading and fuel telemetry from Elite Dangerous.
• Surface mapping with route tracks and configurable search routes.
• Recording of Planetary Mining Deposits, materials, rigs and named markers.
• Radar coverage and radar pulse visualisation.
• Navigation to map targets.
• Transparent navigation overlay for use while playing.
• Optional steering assistance using game telemetry and configured input conditions.
• Map saving and loading.
• Map Library with preview, Favorites and Protected filtering.
• Trash and Restore for safer map management.
• Map version management and ordering.
• Configurable map, overlay, radar and navigation options.
• Windows, Dark and Light interface themes.
• English and Portuguese (Portugal) interface.
Beta 2 introduces Surface Mining Market Research. It can find markets in a given system that consume commodities that can be mined from planets within that same system, providing a useful opportunity to earn PowerPlay merits. It also indicates the planet types where each commodity is most likely to be found and, where available, shows market-data freshness information.
Rhino Surface Mapper began as a personal solution to a practical Surface Mining problem: avoiding repeated coverage, knowing which areas had already been investigated, and remembering where useful deposits had been found. It has since grown into a more complete mapping and navigation companion that I hope will also be useful to other Commanders.
Rhino Surface Mapper is currently available as a portable Beta for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11.
The project is open source and licensed under GNU GPL-3.0.
Rhino Surface Mapper is an independent community project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Frontier Developments.
