EDSMT is a Windows surface-mining survey tool for the Vodel Rhino. Original work by Radio Raxxla. Not affiliated with Frontier Developments, and not derived from any other tool.
It reads the Elite Dangerous journal and Status.json, so you never type a system name, a coordinate or a distance. The game already knows where you are standing. EDSMT uses that.
Workflow
1. Run the DSS on a body. The game reports Planetary Mining Location Signals.
2. Drive into a signal. Press F9. EDSMT records the signal, its position and the commodities it offered — including anything already marked depleted.
3. Ping with the mineral scanner. Press F10 on each hit. That is a Planetary Mining Deposit.
Two keys. Rigs can be left blank until you are on site and know the count. There is no centre to set and no bearing to work out.
Amount and density are different. Density (Low / Medium / High) does not change. Amount walks down to Depleted as you work the site. A deposit can be High density and Depleted at the same time: rich, empty today, worth coming back to.
MINED OUT sets amount to Depleted and stamps the note with the date and time (for example Mined 10/09/2026 01:05). Press it again later and it adds another line. It is not a delete. The pin stays on the map because "empty as of this date" is more useful than a missing site.
Worked out marks a whole signal as stripped. It drops out of results and climbs back as it regenerates. Frontier said surface deposits regenerate slowly; ring hotspots do not, so age is part of the ranking.
Wrong commodity or signal number: every deposit and every signal has an edit button. Renumbering a signal takes its deposits with it. Deleting a signal does not delete its deposits. Position and timestamp come from the game and are not editable — if a pin is in the wrong place, delete it and mark it again. Edits stay local. A correction to something already shared does not rewrite the copy on the server.
Map
Top-down plan view, you in the middle, north up. Pins show commodity and range in metres. Off-map finds get an arrowhead and a distance. Click a pin for range, heading and left/right from your current course. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom, right-click to snap back to you. Works with Elite shut, centred on the last body you recorded.
Overlay
A compass strip across the top of the screen: direction, range and rig count for recorded deposits. Finds behind you pin to the near edge with a turn arrow. Drive by the strip instead of alt-tabbing. Unlock to drag it, lock again and clicks pass through to the game. Size, opacity and how many deposits it lists are in Settings.
The overlay cannot draw over exclusive fullscreen DirectX. Set Elite to borderless or windowed.
Commodities
The 4.4.1.0 surface list plus whatever actually comes out of the ground. The box filters as you type (bastna finds Bastnäsite). Anything the game names is accepted and remembered. The list is suggestions, not a rulebook.
Sharing
Asked once on first launch. No is accepted. Nothing leaves the machine unless you turn it on. Settings has the switch either way. With sharing on, your finds go to the community survey and everyone else's appear under Find — filter by commodity, minimum rigs, how many different commodities sit in one patch, and how recently anyone confirmed it. Best patch points the map at the tightest group with the most rigs and the most different commodities.
Best sell prices
The new surface commodities are missing from the community commodity-ID list market sites key off. The game still writes Market.json every time you open a market. With price sharing on, EDSMT reads it and Find answers where that commodity actually sells from what commanders running the tool have seen.
Install

Per-user installer. No admin prompt. Start menu entry, optional desktop shortcut, Add/Remove Programs. Same page: EDSMT.exe as a single portable file.
Finds live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RadioRaxxla\EDSMT, not the program folder, so updates never touch them. Settings can write a dated zip backup. Restore keeps whatever was already there alongside, renamed rather than overwritten.
SmartScreen and VirusTotal
Windows SmartScreen warns the first time because the build is not code-signed. More info → Run anyway.
Some VirusTotal engines currently flag EDSMT-Setup.exe and the portable EDSMT.exe. Those are false positives on an unsigned PyInstaller / Inno Setup package. Source is on the download page. A signed build will follow. Only download from radioraxxla.com/EDSMT.
Requirements
Windows. Elite Dangerous 4.4.1.1. Journal logging enabled (default). Overlay needs borderless or windowed mode.
