ED Outrider is an exploration companion for Elite Dangerous. It runs on your own PC, reads your journals as you play, and shows everything in a browser page you can put on any monitor at any size. No account, nothing uploaded.
Before you jump
- Every known system within 25 ly is listed, so any star on the galaxy map that isn't there has never been reported. The nearest known unvisited system marks where the unreported begins.
- Target a system and you hear whether it's undiscovered, known but unscanned, or already done.
- Neutron Highway routes from Spansh, followed as you fly.
Arriving
- A spoken briefing, and the arrival star's scan settles whether you're first.
- Alerts the moment the FSS resolves a valuable body, and for every new Codex entry.
In the system
- Every body's value now and at most (bonuses included), signals, volcanism, rings and curiosities, before you scan or land.
- A to-do list in suggested order, with supercruise time, credits per minute, and "skip?" for bodies not worth the trip.
- A warning when you target onward with mapping or biology still worth doing.
Exobiology
- Predictions from BioScan's spawn rules: the genera each signal could be before you probe, what they'd pay (x5 first footfall included), and which would be new Codex entries.
- On the ground, a heading-up surface map with your samples, each species' colony distance and your ship, and a warning before you abandon a half-finished run.
Keeping track
- Unsold data in credits, your first discoveries, the nearest places to sell, and what's aboard against your rebuy.
- A firsts watch for systems you discovered that others have since scanned, and a rescan checklist for data lost with a ship.
- Nearby systems with work left behind, and a search for scoopable stars, rings or unfinished exobiology.
- Fuel, trips from sale to sale with what they paid, a 3D map of your path and firsts, and automatic journal backups.
A voice and a tablet
A natural Piper voice in three personalities, every line editable. A touch layout at /tablet with nine themes (LCARS, Elite HUD, Babylon 5, Star Wars and more), a game-control rail, and an Android app with a "Hey Vespa" wake word.
Run it as a server
- A ready-made Docker image: two downloads and docker compose up -d, then docker compose pull to update.
- It runs around the clock on a home server or NAS, reading the game PC's journals over a network share, so your tablets and other PCs always have it.
- Other devices sign in with a password, and a notice says when a new version is out.
Platforms
Linux is the main platform. Windows runs it with Python 3.11 or newer through launch_outrider.bat. On the game PC (not in Docker), auto honk, auto-target and the control rail press keys for you: solid on Linux, experimental on Windows.
Keep it on your home network: don't expose it to the internet.
